Arabsat has signed contracts for the manufacturing and launching of two new satellites with a total cost of 590 million US Dollar

The Arab Satellite Communications Organization (Arabsat) has signed today the contracts for the two new satellites 5C & Badr 7 with both EADS Astrium and Thales Alenia Space for manufacturing and Arianespace for launching .



Arabsat has held a great ceremony in The Four Seasons Hotel in Riyadh attended by Deputy minister of Communication s and Information Technology in Saudi Arabia, Chairman of Arabsat ,deputies from Ministry of information in Saudi Arabia , Ambassadors of France , Algeria and Jordan in addition to a crowd of media representatives.



Eng. Khalid Balkheyour the Chief Executive Officer of Arabsat stated that these contracts come within the strategic plan of Arabsat that calls for launching a satellite every year till 2012 , he also added that in the last two years two satellites have been launched Badr-4 & Badr-6 and two more satellites will be launched by the end of this year and in the beginning of the next year . As for the satellites that we signed today for their manufacturing and launching will be ready for launching in 2011 & 2012 with total cost of 590 million US Dollar.



Eng. Khalid Balkheyour also added that with a design life exceeding 15 years, these two communications satellites will provide telecommunications and television broadcast services in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and the Indian subcontinent. Arabsat 5C will weigh about 4,680 kg at launch, and will be positioned at 20 degrees East. Arabsat 6B will weigh about 4,380 kg at launch and will be positioned at 26 degrees East.
